**Announcing [PyGMT v0.1.2](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/releases/tag/v0.1.2), a patch release to support the [SciPy 2020 sprint session](https://www.scipy2020.scipy.org/sprints-schedule)!**

The PyGMT team is pleased to present version [v0.1.2](https://www.pygmt.org/v0.1.2) which is a small patch release mostly with improvements to the documentation. Note that this will be the last version to support GMT 6.0, and that future PyGMT versions will require [GMT 6.1](https://flint.soest.hawaii.edu/t/gmt-6-1-0-has-been-released/619) or newer. Here’s a couple of new features in this patch release:

- Wrap grdcut ([#492](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/pull/492))
- Add `show_versions()` function for printing debugging information used in issue reports ([#466](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/pull/466))

The full list of changes can be found in the [changelog](https://www.pygmt.org/v0.1.2/changes.html#release-v0-1-2-2020-07-07). Installation instructions can be found at [Installing — PyGMT](https://www.pygmt.org/v0.1.2/install.html). @liamtoney is now part of the PyGMT core team, and will be leading the PyGMT sessions for the upcoming [SciPy 2020 sprints](https://www.scipy2020.scipy.org/sprints-schedule) this weekend (11-12 June 2020) and Remote Online Sessions for Emerging Seismologists ([ROSES](https://www.iris.edu/hq/inclass/course/roses)) summer school next month (11 August)!

**Disclaimer** : We are currently aware of some major bugs, especially one where passing `xarray` grids to PyGMT functions like `grdimage` and `grdview` results in unexpected behaviour. This will be resolved as soon as possible in the [v0.2.0](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/milestone/2) release, and we appreciate your patience as we work through some tricky issues.

**Roadmap to [v0.2.0](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/milestone/2)**

Looking into the future, here are some new features being planned:

- Support datetime data types as input to `plot` ([#242](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/issues/242))
- Fix a bunch of bugs that were dependent on the upstream GMT 6.1 release (see [here](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/issues?q=is%3Aissue+label%3Aupstream+milestone%3A0.2.x+))
- etc

This will be a pretty busy month for us (we’re just a bunch of PostDocs/PhD students), but feel free to say hi 👋 and get to know PyGMT better at the [Scipy 2020 sprint](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/issues/433), or better yet, send in a contribution! Happy take questions here on the forum, or receive bug reports on our [Github issue tracker](https://github.com/GenericMappingTools/pygmt/issues).

Enjoy 🥳
