Dear all,
I would like to wish you a happy new year and all the best.
On the other hand, I would like to know how I can convert a *.xyz file to *.gmt format. My intention is to edit single beam bathymetry of different cruises with the gmtedit command of Mirone software.
Attached *.xyz file.

Hi Oscar.
What do you mean with gmt format? I think that there is no gmt format. Maybe it is just a txt file with that extension.
Hi Federico,
The *.gmt format is an old format according to what I read in Mirone’s manual. Gmtedit can read *.gmt *.GMT and *.nc files. I managed to convert *.m77t single beam bathymetry files to *.nc with the mgd77convert command, but I have several *.xyz files that I want to edit with this tool.
Try rename your “xxx.xyz” to “xxx.gmt” and see if it works.
Sorry to have missed this. More or less solved meanwhile (Oscar emailed me). The issue is that GMT4 had 2 programs (dat2gmt
& gmt2dat
) to deal with this format but they were lost on the 4 → 5 transition.
