How to get an italic symbol?

Hi,
I use @%12%\161@%% to plot the theta symbol as text. I wonder whether one can make it italic.

There is no italic symbol font in the PostScript listing. Consider using Latex instead.

Various true type fonts have an italic version of theta. Consider using custom fonts
