Is it possible to apply the Equal Earth projection (=EPSG8857 to 9?) in GMT ?
Thank You.
I was waiting that this question was coming. The general answer is: we can use any projection supported by PROJ (Equal Earth is), but GMT won’t able to plot the frames (and the grid but not so sure here) and annotations for the non-supported projections (eqearth is not)
In case you are able to build GMT from source, you may be interested in testing this PR Add the Equal Earth projection support following what was done for Spilhaus by joa-quim · Pull Request #9199 · GenericMappingTools/gmt · GitHub
When a new version of GMT with eqearth support will be released ?
We have no date yet. But if you are on Windows, this one already has it.

Codes for WGS 84 / Equal Earth Greenwich EPSG:8857 work:
-Rd (centered on Greenwich)
-R-180/180/-90/90
but these ones give incorrect results:
-Rg (centered on dateline)
-R-270/90/-90/90 (WGS 84 / Equal Earth Americas EPSG:8858)
-R-30/330/-90/90 (WGS 84 / Equal Earth Asia-Pacific EPSG:8859)
In case of Eckert IV (-JKf) they work well.
Could anyone look at this ? Thank you.
We did see it … which is different than to fix it ![]()
Do you have a Windows version of GMT installer with this fix ?
Not yet. In 1 day or 2
Will this be on gmt main page (with the tag “beta”)? Does it include the last few commits?
Yes, its does include everything in master at the time of what is in the name. And no, it won’t go into main gmt page. For many years I have kept developing version, updated time to time, in the Mirone site. I’ve also started to devise a mechanism to allow a continuous rolling updating mechanism, but that’s far from trivial and would work on windows only.
Alright, thanks ![]()
