Problems cutting grid with -R[..]r

I’m trying to cut a grid using the -R[..]r notation:

gmt grdcut -R-5/53/90/81r @earth_relief_02m -Gtest.nc

This doesn’t output anything. If I omit the -G I don’t get any complains, which is strange since -G is required.

On bleeding edge GMT.
